ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — This time of year always saddens me because NFL season has come to a close.
But, I always look forward to watching the Super Bowl even though I haven’t had a dog in the fight for quite a while now. Hopefully, things will look up for my Cowboys soon.
In the meantime, I will be cheering on the Broncos and hoping they take it all for many of my friends who are Broncos fans.
Regardless of who you’re a fan of, the big game is always a fun event to be part of, whether you’re having your own Super Bowl party, enjoying someone else’s party or being part of the many Super Bowl events at area casinos.
Last year, I watched the big game at Sandia Resort & Casino’s Tlur Pa Lounge. It was so much fun and they fed us, too. This year is no different.
For a $10 cover, you get to watch the big game on a 25-foot video wall and enjoy hot dogs, build-your-own burgers and wings, as well as chips and salsa. Also, enjoy drink specials and giveaways of TVs, football jerseys, iPads and a Blu-Ray player.
If you are planning to head to Sandia’s Tlur Pa bash, get there early. Last year, a line was forming at 10 a.m. so seating was pretty much taken by 11 a.m. Luckily, a friend got there early enough to grab a table and had one empty seat that I had to share with another friend.
But, it was all worth it. The food was good, the giveaways were nice and the atmosphere was awesome. The fun even continued into the night with music and dancing.
THE DOWNS RACETRACK AND CASINO: Enjoy the Super Bowl in the heart of the city by heading over to The Downs’ First Turn Lounge. A live broadcast of the big game will be shown on 24 big-screen TVs, including eight 55-inch screens and 16 42-inch screens. The festivities begin at 2 p.m.
Don’t worry about having to miss any of the action when you get hungry. The Downs has that covered with an appetizer buffet. It also has you covered with $5 You-Make-The-Call pints and beer buckets.
You might also be the lucky winner of some great prizes being given away during the game. That is a lot of fun for just $10.
SAN FELIPE’S CASINO HOLLYWOOD: Take a short drive north to Casino Hollywood for some big game action and cool team memorabilia. The big event kicks off at 2 p.m. and it’s free. The event is open to all ages.
Enjoy drink and food specials throughout the Super Bowl game as well as giveaways of NFL team prizes. Make sure that you stick around for the final drawing. It’s a trip for two to any Dallas Cowboys home game that includes airfare and hotel. Now that is my kind of giveaway.
SANTA ANA STAR CASINO: Stroll around at your leisure at Santa Ana Star Casino. The big game will be shown on TVs throughout the casino. Lounge 54 also will be showing the Super Bowl on a large projection screen and offering up drink specials to boot. There is no cover. You can’t beat that. Come in and enjoy the fun in a cool bar environment.
Have a safe and fun Super Bowl Sunday.
