ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — This time of year always saddens me because NFL season has come to a close.

But, I always look forward to watching the Super Bowl even though I haven’t had a dog in the fight for quite a while now. Hopefully, things will look up for my Cowboys soon.

In the meantime, I will be cheering on the Broncos and hoping they take it all for many of my friends who are Broncos fans.

................................................................

Regardless of who you’re a fan of, the big game is always a fun event to be part of, whether you’re having your own Super Bowl party, enjoying someone else’s party or being part of the many Super Bowl events at area casinos.

Last year, I watched the big game at Sandia Resort & Casino’s Tlur Pa Lounge. It was so much fun and they fed us, too. This year is no different.

For a $10 cover, you get to watch the big game on a 25-foot video wall and enjoy hot dogs, build-your-own burgers and wings, as well as chips and salsa. Also, enjoy drink specials and giveaways of TVs, football jerseys, iPads and a Blu-Ray player.

If you are planning to head to Sandia’s Tlur Pa bash, get there early. Last year, a line was forming at 10 a.m. so seating was pretty much taken by 11 a.m. Luckily, a friend got there early enough to grab a table and had one empty seat that I had to share with another friend.

But, it was all worth it. The food was good, the giveaways were nice and the atmosphere was awesome. The fun even continued into the night with music and dancing.

THE DOWNS RACETRACK AND CASINO: Enjoy the Super Bowl in the heart of the city by heading over to The Downs’ First Turn Lounge. A live broadcast of the big game will be shown on 24 big-screen TVs, including eight 55-inch screens and 16 42-inch screens. The festivities begin at 2 p.m.

Don’t worry about having to miss any of the action when you get hungry. The Downs has that covered with an appetizer buffet. It also has you covered with $5 You-Make-The-Call pints and beer buckets.

You might also be the lucky winner of some great prizes being given away during the game. That is a lot of fun for just $10.

SAN FELIPE’S CASINO HOLLYWOOD: Take a short drive north to Casino Hollywood for some big game action and cool team memorabilia. The big event kicks off at 2 p.m. and it’s free. The event is open to all ages.

Enjoy drink and food specials throughout the Super Bowl game as well as giveaways of NFL team prizes. Make sure that you stick around for the final drawing. It’s a trip for two to any Dallas Cowboys home game that includes airfare and hotel. Now that is my kind of giveaway.

SANTA ANA STAR CASINO: Stroll around at your leisure at Santa Ana Star Casino. The big game will be shown on TVs throughout the casino. Lounge 54 also will be showing the Super Bowl on a large projection screen and offering up drink specials to boot. There is no cover. You can’t beat that. Come in and enjoy the fun in a cool bar environment.

Have a safe and fun Super Bowl Sunday.

Make plans now to attend Sandia’s Super Bowl celebrations on Feb. 7, which draw in big crowds each year.

The Tlur Pa Lounge will be hosting its annual party. But get there early, because there is no seat saving and the place fills up quickly. Doors open at 2 p.m. This is a 21-and-older event, and all guests must have a valid ID to enter. The $12 cover charge gets you in to watch the game on the lounge’s gigantic 25-foot video wall as well as entry to the all-you-can-eat sports buffet.

The buffet will feature all-beef hot dogs with all the condiment offerings including mustard, relish, ketchup, diced onions, pickles and sauerkraut. There also will be Buffalo-style chicken wings with blue cheese and ranch dressings for dipping. Get your munch on with tortilla chips and salsa or queso or jalepeños.

The buffet opens one hour before kickoff and runs until the end of halftime. Sodas, beer, liquor and wine will be available for purchase. Take $1 off draft beers. Make your beer a michelada for $1 more. All wells are also $1 off. Change things up with a $5 Bloody Mary. There also will be prize giveaways to add to the fun.

If you want to check out the Big Game for free, then head down to Sandia’s Bowl Bash in the Sandia Ballroom. Doors open at 2 p.m., and all ages are welcome. The event is first come, first seated. There are various seating options, including a limited number of man caves featuring various couches and comfy chairs with their own TV screen and projector. There also will be additional seating at banquet round tables and theater-style seating with a variety of large screens and projectors.

There also will be food and beverage concession stands featuring pizza, chicken wings, Frito pie, bratwurst, hot dogs, ice cream, popcorn and nachos for purchase. Cash bars also will be available.

Beginning Feb. 12, the Council Room will feature a special menu of non-meat options as well as an all-you-can-eat Fish & Chips special for $16.99. These delicious Lent specials will be offered through March 24. For menus and information on the Council Room, visit sandiacasino.com/council-room.
