Last week in our series of tips for sit & gos — whether playing online poker or live — we discussed heads-up play. This week, we'll wrap up the SNG series with a look at bankroll management.

The month Octobre was overall a pretty good month. I started playing 16NL again slowly and ran pretty hot. I won $273, running well above EV. After that I switched to 25NL again. Where I had a swingy rest of the month. The graph went up and down constantly. Eating away at my motivation also. I ended up 1 buyin in the negative after being up 6 buyins at 25NL. I think the solver strategy that I'm learning at Upswing Poker does not really help me at these stakes. People have still way too tight ranges or they call you down untill the river. I will make some changes to my game going into the next month.

The bankroll also reached a new small peek this month by ending in 4th place in the big $7.5. I managed to win $583. I could've won the tournament, but lost on the river against a 4 outer. I also played some bigger MTT buyins where I also managed to do well with a 24th place in a Belgium MTT out of 400 players.

Overall I'm happy that I did play some volume this month and managed to get out of the downswing of last months. The motivation to play everyday is still not what it used to be. But I blame it on corona, for being behind my PC for way too much everyday.

Going into the next month I hope I will do well again at the 25NL tables and finally push my bankroll to a new peek. Hopefully I will also play some more volume than this month. We will see.

I will show you the screenshots of my results this month below:

Building up a Poker Bankroll – From $10 to $1,000

Building up a poker bankroll from scratch can be quite a test, but it’s far easier than most players assume. So why not start your own personal poker challenge and build up a proper bankroll that will allow you to play for higher stakes? With help from PokerStars School and PokerStars you can start with just $10, so get started today!

Because a player’s money is an essential tool he needs for his job, professional players have been ‘grinding up’ their bankrolls since long before the modern era of online poker. PokerStars is the biggest poker room worldwide, and therefore an ideal place to build up a bankroll online. The benefits are crucial: not only do you have all the poker variants and formats available at the touch of a button – such as ring games, Sit & Go’s or multi-table tournaments – you can also access these games 24/7 and you even don’t need to leave the house.

What is a poker bankroll?

Some people define the word ‘bankroll’ as all the money they have in their Stars Account, but if you want to be more precise you should include all the money you have available to wager. A professional poker player, for example, might have $10,000 online and another $5,000 in cash for live games, then have $20,000 in a bank account to cover their living costs.

It’s even possible to have two separate bankrolls in your online account at PokerStars. Let’s say you want to start a bankroll challenge with $10, but at the same time you want to keep some additional funds to play for fun. While both amounts are in the same account, you can easily keep track of both bankrolls if you keep track of your sessions.

So before you start, think about what you want to spend on a hobby you love. If you want to spend $50, $100 or even more, you can always adapt your strategy with the help of our bankroll management recommendations. If you want to start with $10, it might take a bit longer, but think of it as just adding a few more steps along the path to your final goal.
